When two become one: a seamless merger of two TalkingPoint user sites

When Northcroft Surgery and St. Mary's Road surgery (Newbury, Berkshire) merged, both surgeries were using TalkingPoint's speech recognition workflow. In April 2016, the new business relocated to Strawberry Hill Medical Centre where the practice is now serving 21,700 patients and has a team of 9 partner GPs and 1 salaried GP.

TalkingPoint was originally adopted at both surgeries to improve efficiency and patient services. Sarah Arnold, Practice Manager, comments: "TalkingPoint is as efficient as when we first implemented TalkingPoint's speech solution at former surgery; it is an easy way of managing letter production. The process is so simple: the GP dictates the body of the letter which goes to the secretaries' TalkingPoint desktop, the content is then copied and pasted onto headed paper, top and tail it, and then add it to the e-referrals system."

Both former practices had been using EMISweb, and the new practice continues to do so.

Sarah continues: "TalkingPoint was not the first system that we looked at originally; however as soon as we saw the TalkingPoint workflow demonstration, we knew it was exactly what we needed. I was impressed to learn exactly how TalkingPoint would work within the practice and that it interfaces seamlessly with EMISWeb. For us that was definitely a major factor in selecting TalkingPoint."

The practice uses TalkingPoint to generate all referral and patient letters and the practice is benefiting from implementing a faster workflow. A particularly useful TalkingPoint feature is that the body of referral letters can be copied from the TalkingPoint dictation box and pasted into the e-referral system. This has removed the need for a separate practice letter to be generated, creating a significant improvement for the secretarial team.

"From the start, we were clearly advised that each GP would need half a day's training to ensure that we would get the best performance from using TalkingPoint. We dedicated a half day for each GP and have not needed any troubleshooting, so this was absolutely the right advice."

The practice now has 9 users, including one of the practice's two Advanced Nurse Practitioners, generating all of their letters using TalkingPoint. Licenses are also in place to extend use to the Practice Manager and any other Clinician or Manager to aid quick and easy written correspondence and administration.
