Following the Pathology Reporting, London 2017 Seminar in July, and the interest garnered, TalkingPoint hosted another free one-day seminar for Histopathologists, BMSs and Laboratory Managers on the 7th of December 2017 at the recently opened event centre, 'etc.venues', Piccadilly, Manchester.

Histopathology reporting is an integral part of the Pathologists and BMS’s working day, and the aim of the seminar was to outline the benefits of the speech enabled workflow solutions e.g.

  • Easier reporting - hands-free for both cutup and microscopy, including fluid dictation, structured reporting, single utterance standard reports, intuitive SNOMED dictation and fully automated block entry during cutup.
  • Faster reporting - complete removal of the dictation/transcription process ensures report efficiency and reduced cost.
  • Improved reporting - instant full visibility of reports whilst dictating with structured entry, improved content and consistency.

Simon Wallace, the Chief Clinical Information Officer at Nuance (creators of the world leading speech recognition engine, Dragon Medical) started off the event with a brief introduction. Speakers included: Dr Fred Mayall (Consultant Histopathologist, Taunton) who presented FreeDPath, the award winning COSD Cancer Registry Reporting Solution. An authority on Digital Pathology, Dr Pedro Oliveira (Consultant Histopathologist at The Christie, Manchester) spoke on the merits of going digital. Dr Jackie Elder (Consultant Histopathologist and former Head of Cellular Pathology at the Countess of Chester) shared her experience on how TalkingPoint for Pathology is driving reporting at the Countess of Chester Hospital, and Malcolm Grant (Managing Director of TalkingPoint) discussed and demonstrated the proven advantages of using speech recognition technology, when carefully integrated with the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).

Considerable discussions ensued and all the attendees were enlightened on how best to maximise efficiency and minimise turnaround times using a combination of digital technologies in order to attain and even exceed, the high quality demanded by a professional health service. CPD credits were once again awarded for attendance.

TalkingPoint specialises in speech driven workflows that streamline pathology for cutup, microscopy and autopsy. The Team has implemented Histopathology workflow at more than 20 NHS Trusts, successfully integrated with numerous LIMS.
