No snags with Talking Sheets

Detailing the outstanding and remedial work as a construction scheme comes to an end is one of the more vital tasks for site engineers. When preparing a “snagging list”, each individual defect has to be spotted and documented by contract managers in order for remedial work to be carried out before the handover of the completed scheme. One problem with producing snagging lists is that the exercise is mundane and costly mistakes can be made.  Now construction group McNicholas PLC (“Brown Macs”) has developed a high-tech solution. The construction company has teamed up with Surrey based speech recognition specialist Talking Letters to develop Talking Snag Sheets, a digital recording that uses speech recognition software to transcribe the tapes quickly and accurately.Site instructions, snagging data and outstanding work schedules are dictated into a digital voice recorder on-site. Recordings are then downloaded back at the office and automatically transcribed to give individual subcontractors a bespoke snagging list. According to Keith Lovering, construction manager at about McNicholas, the system is more accurate than traditional snag sheets and slashes the time taken to produce them. He said: “writing out snagging notes on site is a tedious process, prone to error. Since using Talking Snag Sheets, errors have almost disappeared.”
