Presenting the award, Alan Sumner, Roche Diagnostics, said that the team had delivered "a project that has resulted in major impact and benefit."
Betsi Cadwaladr UHB Cellular Pathology team has been awarded the NHS Wales Working with Industry award for their collaboration with TalkingPoint to deliver a speech driven workflow solution for rapid pathology reporting from cut-up to digital microscopy reporting.
Accepting the award, Pearl Huey, Cellular Pathology, Glan Clwyd Hospital said: We are very grateful to receive the award. We have worked with TalkingPoint for several months on this project and they deployed very quickly when Covid emerged. During the project we worked very closely with Malcolm Grant, TalkingPoint's Managing Director, who has a deep understanding of cellular pathology systems and how technology can best be implemented to shorten the reporting process. Now, instead of the Pathologist having to dictate a report for a secretary type up and issue, the Pathologist can now simply view a slide on screen, dictate their report and release it straight to the Welsh Clinical Portal; delivering immediate results!"

Within the cellular pathology department, slides are viewed digitally or by traditional microscopy. By using TalkingPoint, the Consultants dictate reports for immediate authorisation, a change that has improved turnaround by several days. TalkingPoint has also enabled the service to continue to report remotely throughout the Covid pandemic.
TalkingPoint is now being adopted by other Cellular Pathology departments in Wales.
